Also known as Corsican Hellebore, this plant likes to grow in shady, moist spots under trees and bushes. It is one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring, displaying delicate nodding pale green and white flowers atop an attractive plant. It is poisonous if ingested by humans.
We have only one plant in our fern garden on Shelter Island. It grew next to the cherry tree, presumably part of a garden planted by a previous owner. It bloomed this spring and last. Its leaves were damaged by the winter cold, but the new growth looks healthy and attractive.
